With free-flowing indoor/outdoor areas and large timber-framed windows, Kataza House is sustainably constructed from local materials like volcanic rock and hand-fired terracotta bricks to engage with the surrounding landscape. The layered interior design, using artisanal-woven panels in rich deep colors and distinctive sculptural pieces of wood and stone textures, reflects the skill of traditional craftspeople from the immediate Musanze district as well as other communities.
