BIG ISLAND, HAWAII OCTOBER

ST. BARTHS BUCKET REGATTA

In 1995, the beautiful French island of St Barths hosted its first Bucket Regatta and it has done so in March every year since then. Although the size of the yachts and competing fleet has grown significantly, the spirit of the event has remained unchanged. In recent years, 40 or more superyachts have gathered to compete for the Bucket in glamorous St Barths. Over the years, many of the world’s most notable and accomplished sailors have participated in the racing. Nonetheless, as the Bucket Regatta has evolved, the organizers have kept a tight focus on maintaining the original camaraderie and non-commercial spirit of the event. It was, and still is, an event conceived and hosted purely for the pleasure and enjoyment of the sailing superyacht owner. There is no other regatta of its magnitude on the superyacht racing circuit with the same goals, and the event organizers consider themselves the stewards of a most worthwhile tradition. Every year, invitations are extended to like-minded individuals.

TUSCANY OCTOBER

L’EROICA GAIOLE CHIANTI

A group cycling event, this annual October ride through the Tuscan hills is a grand homage to beauty, nature and vintage design. Due to the popularity of the original L’Eroica in Gaiole in Chianti, there are now Eroica cycling events worldwide from South Africa to the United States to Japan to the United Kingdom. Founded in 1997 by Chianti-born Giancarlo Brocci, the race sees riders take one of several routes, ranging from 46 to 209 kilometres. All start and finish in Gaiole in Chianti — a village of nearly 3,000 people, 15 kilometres north-east of Siena. The various routes lead participants through the farmland around Siena and through the Val d’Orcia.

LOS CABOS JULY/AUGUST

EAST CAPE BISBEE FISHING TOURNAMENT

Bisbee’s Black & Blue Tournaments have been taking place in the Los Cabos region of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico for over 30 years. The Black & Blue Marlin Tournament has grown from six teams with a purse of $10,000 to more than 150 teams with millions of dollars on the line. Over the years each tournament has developed its own personality with the East Cape Offshore being a laid back “Cabo fishing as it used to be” type of event, the Los Cabos which takes place just days before the Black & Blue and nick-named the “Little Bisbee’s”, is a very social event full of comraderie where friends can meet, swap stories and get in a few days of fishing before the “Big Show.” The last tournament in the series, Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin Tournament, is hard to describe if you’ve never been there. It’s five days of organized chaos full of hard-core excitement. With the beautiful and lively city of Cabo San Lucas as the backdrop, thousands of people crowd the marina walkways to shop, party and watch huge fish being weighed in at the scales in front of the world-famous Puerto Paraiso Entertainment Plaza. The Black & Blue is a once in a lifetime experience you’ll never forget, whether you take home memories or millions.
