JAS ASPEN LABOR DAY WEEKEND

The internationally recognized open-air festival, the JAS Labor Day Experience, takes place at Snowmass Town Park with the spectacular Elk Mountain Range as a backdrop. Held annually in Park City, Utah, The Sundance Film Festival is the ultimate gathering of original storytellers and audiences seeking new voices and fresh perspectives. The annual program includes dramatic and documentary features, short films, and episodic content. The festival also hosts daily filmmaker conversations, panel discussions, and other events. Since 1985, hundreds of films launched at the Festival have gone on to gain critical acclaim and reach new audiences worldwide.

TELLURIDE FILM FESTIVAL JULY/AUGUST

The Telluride Film Festival is a celebration of cinema that takes place in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. The festival is known for not being a competition, but rather a celebration of the best in film from around the world, both past and present. It’s also known for its premieres, which have led to the discovery of important new films and filmmakers. For example, Michael Moore’s Roger and Me debuted at the festival in 1989, and Robert Rodriguez’s El Mariachi had its first festival screening there in 1992.

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS NOVEMBER

Every November 1st and 2nd, the Mexican people pay tribute to the memory of their ancestors and honor the history of their families. Known as “Dia de los Muertos,” (Day of the Dead) the holiday is not a mournful affair. Instead it is a lively event that reunites generations in the belief that for those two days, the border between the worlds of the living and the dead are weakened, allowing spirits to return for feasts and celebrations. Ofrendas (altars) are carefully decorated with photographs and mementos of lost loved ones as well as candles, sugar skulls and marigolds. The potent perfume and bright orange of marigold flowers are said to attract the souls of the dead to the ofrendas their families have prepared with offerings of atole, a corn liquor, and pan de muerto, a sweet bread baked for the holiday. Visitors to Los Cabos can join the festivities for an authentic cultural experience that is both breathtaking and steeped in history.
