Following Mother Nature’s powerful impact on Hawaii this past year (from hurricanes to volcanic eruptions), the Big Island is now coaxing travelers back to its waiting shores. Our Cuvée travelers are back in spades and are experiencing all-new explorations of the island, from hiking the lava’s recent path and collecting sea salt along the lava rocks, to discovering awe-inspiring, new black sand beaches.Below, 3 reasons to head to Hawaii’s Big Island in 2019.

Volcanoes National Park

The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park reopened on September 22, allowing guests to explore the dramatic changes in the area. From Kahuku Road, see the Forested Pit Crater plunging 230 feet brimming with native forest. On the slopes of Mauna Loa, trek to the lava trails from Hawaii’s largest earthquake in 1868 and historic pasturelands 2,000 feet above sea level.

The Wonders of Lava

Along the shores of the Hualalai Resort, black lava rock surrounds the resort including the sea salt flats. Experience collecting your own sea salt, just like ancient Hawaiians using tools and cloth bags. Venture to the newly formed black sand beach created by the lava flow after it entered the ocean, creating crystal-fine sand that settled along the coastline resulting in a stunning sight.

Helicopter Tours

Take to the air for unparalleled views of the Island including the KĪlauea Summit where the Halemaumau Crater has quadrupled in size from the recent earthquake. Fly across epic landscapes above old and new lava flow, to lush rainforests, fascinating sea caves, and steep cascading waterfalls- usually seen only by air.
